Why Do We Care?
At city we believe that, in response to the love that we have been shown by God and through Christ, we should Love and Care for one another.
1 John 4.10-12
"In this is love, not that we have loved God but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought to love one another."
We believe that Jesus example shows us that we should care for those who are in need, the vulnerable, the poor and the foreigner.
Psalm 146.7-9
"Who executes justice for the oppressed, who gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets the prisoner free; the Lord opens the eyes of the blind. The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down; the Lord loves the righteous. The Lord watches over the sojourners; he upholds the widow and the fatherless, but the way of the wicked He will bring to ruin."
We believe that every person's greatest need, no matter what other needs they may have, is the gospel and that the most caring thing we can do is share the gospel both in what we do and say.
We believe that we are to care at all times both in good times and the bad times.
Romans 12.15
"Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep"
Our Core Aims In Care Ministry Are To Be:
Gospel centred- to proclaim the gospel by sharing God's love as He told us to. (John 15.12, John 13.34-35, 1 John 4.10-12)
Bible based- to seek to meet practical, spiritual and emotional needs by applying the truth of God's word. (1 John3.18, Proverbs 3.5-8, Deuteronomy 22.4)
Needs Led- to care on the basis of need, without partiality, both within the church and in the wider community. (Matthew 25.35-40, Deuteronomy10.17-19, Matthew 5.43-47)
Care Focussed- to seek to care at all times, sharing the resources that we have available. (Romans 12.15, 1 John3.17, Deuteronomy 15.7-8, Proverbs 17.17, Acts 2.44-45)
